Birgit Hoinle has a background in urban and feminist geography and agri-food studies. She contributes to the realm of re-think through her focus on decolonial perspectives in research and teaching. She has empirical research experience in Latin America, especially in Brazil and Colombia, where she conducted fieldwork for her PhD thesis on urban agroecology and empowerment processes in Bogotá. Due to a cooperation with the Latin American network for Critical Geography (GeoRaizAL) and joint publications, she gained insights into decolonial theories and participatory action research approaches.
