Re-Connect focuses on fostering material and non-material interlinkages between humans and nature. The non-material contributions of nature to people are a central aspect of human wellbeing (Díaz et al., 2018; Kosanic & Petzold, 2020). Values have had a massive impact on the transformation of the world—for example, through the primacy of increasing economic productivity rather than the equitable and sustainable use of resources (Foley et al., 2005, 2011). Moreover, such values influence (perceived) options for action and objectives of the local population and can promote conflicts between different populations and marginalised groups (Chan et al., 2016; Díaz et al., 2015). Values are concretised in formal and informal institutions (Partelow et al., 2022).
