Annette Breckwoldt

Annette has an interdisciplinary background in the coastal marine sciences. Her empirical work contributes mainly to the realms of re-connect and re-think, to reveal human-ocean-interactions, mainly through participatory, inter- and transdisciplinary research on (small) island marine resource use and knowledge systems. Annette strives to understand the everyday lives and challenges of diverse stakeholders in coastal environments, i.e. how they perceive, manage, exploit, and protect these. This identifies, for example, what kind of decision-making options people have and on which knowledge they base their respective livelihoods. Her work’s contextual focus has been anchored mainly in Oceania, but also in the Arctic and Indonesia.
